Expert in developing and implementing communication plans to achieve educational, regulatory and corporate goals, with particular strengths in strategic planning and project management.
Professional Highlights
Developed, wrote and produced a series of highly structured, multimedia, interactive skills-training modules for patients with mental illness, therapists and psychiatrists to improve management of disease, medication and quality of life. Created the instructional design, wrote and edited copy, supervised art and production, and acted as executive producer and director for videotapes. Modules have been translated into multiple languages and continue to be used worldwide.
Designed and wrote proposal for establishing a Medical Communications Department at Syntex Palo Alto. Managed the department budget and developed the goals, objectives, and staff during the first three years of operation.
Wrote detailed internal guidelines for Syntex Clinical Research & Regulatory Affairs to ensure preparation of consistent, FDA-compliant Clinical Study Reports (CSRs).
Served as National President of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA), including seven years on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Developed the pharmaceutical section of an accredited core-curriculum educational program, organized regional and national conferences, initiated a fund-raising exhibit program, and continue to participate actively in the organization.
Created and continue to lead professional workshops, including The Scope of Medical Communications, Pharmaceutical Communications, Video Production in the Pharmaceutical Industry, The Business of Freelancing, Managing Stress during Chronic Illness, and Yoga Therapy for Alleviating Stress.
Developed Pharm/Alert Continuing Education, an accredited CE program for pharmacists, and served as Managing Editor for several years. Created/designed and wrote supplementary publications to provide counseling guidelines/patient handouts for pharmacists and their clients.
Received the AMWA Golden Apple Award for consistent excellence in teaching and presentation.
